Sunday’s Artist You Should Know About

I am always on the lookout for art that celebrates the book, in any form.

Today’s artist is actually artist’s. Known sometimes as “The Maria’s”, Maria Olevik and Maria Larsson are talented Swedish artists who work with porcelain and light to create delicate, luminous objects that I can only describe as magical.

I was randomly watching the Sundance Channel a few days ago, and have no idea what show it was but a guy who worked for Anthropologie was in Sweden searching for ceramics to display as both store decor and  in a gallery space to open their London location. He stumbled upon these amazing artists, and I in turn stumbled upon them through him.

I am not normally a big fan of Anthro mostly because the vast majority of their clothes are insanely overpriced for the quality even in the clearance section, but I do love knowing that they can support and help promote beautiful art and artists.

Having a sculpture background myself, and knowing how hard and time consuming it is not only to make moulds but also cast insanely thin porcelain bone china (I was never ever ever successful in this and stuck to much easier casting mediums), I have a huge admiration for their level of craft. The Maria’s design functional art -mainly lights- as well as their stunning installations.

But enough from me. Take some time and just love on these gorgeous photos!
